IoT: The Internet of Things.
IoE: The Internet of Everything.

The concept of IoT was first proposed around 1990. The IoE concept was developed by Cisco (CSCO), and Cisco CEO John Chambers spoke out on the IoE concept at CES in January 2014. People cannot escape the limitations of their time, and the value of the Internet began to be realized around 1990, shortly after it began, when the understanding of the Internet was still at a purely connected stage. In the past 20 years, with the rapid development of science and technology and all walks of life, as well as the rapid popularization of personal PC and mobile terminals, human beings have begun to realize the power of big data, and have new ideas and considerable confidence in the realization of artificial intelligence. We are no longer satisfied with simply connecting everything. We also need big data to realize artificial intelligence. Therefore, Cisco’s IoE(Internet of Everything) contains big data, emphasizing that the main body of connection should also have big data and intelligence, and then provide services for the main body of “people”.

In 1990 or so, you might have thought of connecting your car to the Internet, but you wouldn’t have thought of autonomous driving any time soon, but now autonomous driving is being tested on the road. Even a coder can’t write an autonomous driving technology by making manual if-else-else if judgments in code, but a computer can learn to complete specific complex tasks by itself without explicit programming. This is the power of machine learning based on big data, artificial intelligence, a new understanding of the world. Recently, AlphaGo defeated 60 go masters, changing the history of Go in a very short period of time, and also changing human cognition! This is also data-based intelligence.

The substitution of an unknown x for a specific number may seem like a small change, but it is a fundamental change that marks the transition from arithmetic to algebra, and the solution to the coat-cage problem is no longer a matter of skill. Ordinary people can use equations to solve problems that only smart people can solve. With equations, with functions, we can develop more powerful weapons on this platform, like calculus.

Therefore, from IoT(Internet of Things) to IoE(Internet of Everything) is not only a word, a letter change, but represents a new level of human cognition, the advent of a new era.

With thousands of years of accumulated knowledge and the rapid development of technology, many fields may bring us new surprises, which will give new meaning to connection. For example, chip implantation in the human body, which is a new way of connecting. We need to connect ourselves, connect things, connect data, connect intelligence, connect energy. Connect everything known and unknown in known and unknown ways!

In fact, the need for human connection has always existed. In the early stage, it was forced to survive, such as the beacon fire and smoke, the fast horse post station to transmit military information. If the connection is not done properly, we will be defeated and slaughtered by the enemy.

Later, people connected for life, and found that connection is a kind of productivity. Therefore, the pursuit of human connection has never stopped, as the post-80s, still remember the primary school composition is telegram, how to “cherish the word such as gold” to make things clear, and now, we have a better, faster connection, do not have to tangle with a few more words.

At CES in January 2017, we started connecting our combs to the Internet. (Imagine how lonely and bored we would be to connect a comb to the Internet after we got our business done, something our non-contemporary ancestors might not have imagined.) It is conceivable that soon, with the arrival of 5G, everything on earth that can be connected will be connected.

Connecting and connecting all things is the most important basic platform for human life in the future.

In fact, Qualcomm also mentioned IoE(Internet of Everything) for a long time. For example, Qualcomm held IoE Day in 2014 and 2015.

Many domestic enterprises also use IoE(Internet of Everything), such as ZTE’s MICT 2.0 strategy: VOICE, in which E stands for Internet of Everything.

People are not satisfied with IoT(Internet of Things), probably because IoT(Internet of Things) is missing something compared to the current era. For example, the TELECOMMUNICATION Management Forum (TM Forum) defines IoE as follows:

TM Forum Internet of Everything (IoE) program
